Hey people, have you noticed? The TV networks are trying very hard (again) to capture your valuable TV viewing time! Ugh, my PVR will be working overtime yet again! I love watching new shows that have a great premise (see my preview of last year’s new shows (click here).  Out of the 24 new shows this fall, here are my recommendations of 2014-2015 TV season that you should sacrifice your valuable time to:

  • 2014-z_nationZ Nation – ZOMG, watch the trailer now! No, it’s not a Walking Dead ripoff, really! A band of survivors try to transport a man who has been bitten eight times by zombies but remains alive.  He is the only hope for a cure but has to be transported from New York to California   (Fri Sep-12, 10:00pm, SyFy, see the awesome trailer) – onomeister says “MUST-SEE”
  • 2014-madam-secretaryMadam Secretary – Tea Leoni is the new Secretary of State who is a former CIA analyst that cannot be micro-managed by all the White House aides but does well to juggle her job and personal life (Sun Sep-21, 8:00pm, CBS, see trailer) – onomeister says “BORDERLINE”
  • 2014-GothamGotham – Based in the early years before Batman, this is about pre-Commissioner Jim Gordon who is a detective fighting crime. He will also be crossing paths with the people who will eventually become Batman, Catwoman, the Riddler, Poison Ivy and the Penguin (Mon Sep-22, 8:00pm FOX, see trailer) – onomeister says “MUST-SEE”
  • 2014_scorpionScorpion – This is cool: A procedural based on a true story of a group of eccentric, poorly socialized geniuses who band together to fight high-tech criminals (Mon Sep-22, 9:00pm, CBS, see trailer) onomeister says “MAYBE A WINNER”

  • 2014-star-wars-rebelsStar Wars Rebels – Did you know that the Rebels team is in close contact with Abrams’ Episode VII crew? Meaning that this animated show could provide a sneak peek at the future Star Wars films! The premise is a sidestory revolving around the events that lead up to Star Wars IV: A New Hope where Darth Vader assigns the “Inquisitor” to hunt down the last remaining Jedi (Features the original voices of “Lando” – Billy Dee Williams and “C-3PO” – Anthony Daniels) (Fri Oct-03, 9:00pm, Disney X.D, see trailer) onomeister says “MUST-SEE”

  • 2014-ascensionAscension – Wow, this trailer is amazing! Slated as a 6-hour miniseries, this sci-fi is about a 1963 covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard a starship to populate a new world (stars Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer, ie. “Six”) (Nov-24, 9:00pm, SyFy, see trailer) onomeister says “MAYBE A WINNER”
  • 2014-fresh-off-the-boatFresh Off the Boat – It’s the ’90s and 12 year old, hip-hop loving Eddie just moved to suburban Orlando from DC’s Chinatown with his Asian parents. This is the first network sitcom in 20 years to feature an Asian American family (2015, ABC, see trailer) onomeister says “MAYBE A WINNER” (but a “MUST-SEE” if you’re Asian like me!)
  • 2014-wayward-pinesWayward Pines – A mystery drama with 4 Oscar-nominated actors: Matt Dillon,  Juliette Lewis and Terrence Howard, and Oscar-winner Melissa Leo, it feels like Twin Peaks, but different. The trailer is very intriguing! (2015, FOX, see trailer) onomeister says “MAYBE A WINNER”)

So many awesome shows, so little time…

So who’s going to see Steven Spielberg’s next big movie “Lincoln”? And no, this is not the poorly-rated vampire hunter Lincoln movie.

This biopic of Abraham Lincoln focuses on the last four months of Lincoln’s life, as he fights to amend the constitution to outlaw slavery, while also seeking peace with the Confederates in the Civil War. It was recently shown in a secret screening at the New York Film Festival (cell phones, iPads and even Kindles were not allowed), and will officially release Nov. 16, but those who made it into the screening were under oath not to review the film yet. Ohhh, the secrecy!

Apparently, the film has already been billed a sure shot for Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (Daniel Day Lewis) – they are expecting a total of 12 nominations. Listen for Oscar-winning composer John Williams (a la Star Wars / Indiana Jones) as he teams yet again with Spielberg.

One of 2012’s top five films? OMG definitely!

I finally had a chance to watch the movie Taken recently, then I learned that they already confirmed a sequel (coming in October 2012), with Liam Neeson starring as the retired CIA operative “with a particular set of skills”. This time his wife is taken.

I thoroughly enjoyed the action and directing from the first film (by Pierre Morel) , but now they have chosen a different director for the sequel (Olivier Megaton). What direction/style will he bring to Taken 2? Will it be as good as the original?

As usual, the glorious trailer for Taken 2 looks awesome, action fans! And the director, Olivier Megaton has directed other action-packed films such as  Transporter 3 and Colombiana. The script is written by action thriller specialists Luc Besson and Robert Mark Karmen. And easy-on-the-eyes Maggie Grace will be returning too.

Are you a fan of Luc Besson movies like I am? Are you a fan of Maggie Grace? Are you going to see Taken 2?

After watching Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and how terrible Spider-Man 3 was, I think there are many movie-goers that may pass on this revamped Amazing Spider-Man movie. On the other hand, the film may also be a huge hit just cuz it’s riding on the coattails of the Avengers’ success.

The advance screeners say that the mix of romance, comedy and drama is balanced well. Action fans will also enjoy the huge set pieces, especially the fight versus the Lizard.

The trailer (below) is of course OMG drool amazing. Entertainment Weekly gave the film an A- (Just for comparisons, they gave Green Lantern a C+).

Will you go and see the Amazing Spider-Man?

(Bonus: There is a reveal for the next sequel after the credits!  Also, did you know Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe was considered for the Peter Parker role? lol! So relieved that they didn’t go with him…)

This is the four-minute Super Preview extended trailer:

Wow, just wow… The team that brought you Heavy Rain (developer Quantic Dream, who brought you the eye-popping demo: KARA, that I blogged about a while ago), brings this new PS3 exclusive game starring Oscar-nominated Ellen Page (of Inception and Juno).

  • The game is centered around questions about what happens after death. It lets the player take Jodie Holmes through 15 years of her life on a journey to discover what is the true meaning of a ghost-like entity that’s alongside her throughout the story.
  • This supernatural element will empower Jodie with various abilties. The video shows that these abilities could include possession, the ability to light people in a mystical fire and some kind of protective shield.
  • The game features a dark graphical style, similar feel to Heavy Rain.

Heavy Rain was awesome, Quantic Dream is awesome. All signs point to the fact that Beyond will be an improvement of Heavy Rain. I can’t wait for this game to come out!

Wow, just wow… Every year, video games have gotten closer and closer to looking like a movie… This trailer is a must-see, and could arguably be the best game shown at this year’s E3. The graphics are melt-in-your-mouth beautiful. Make sure that you watch this trailer in its entirety!

  • In this open world game, set in a dystopian future, where computers have invaded every aspect of life, you play as a guy who can hack any system. Imagine walking down the street and being able to disable every cell phone around, do instant background checks on other people, or control traffic lights to cause convenient accidents.
  • The game takes place in New York City after a virus has been unleashed, causing a huge blackout and eventually control of all public computer systems handed to a major corporation.

The trailer is rated M for Mature, and is brought to you by Ubisoft Montreal (the guys that brought you Assassin’s Creed series and Far Cry series).
