This year was Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary, next year is Mega Man’s 25th anniversary. And something nice had to be done. The game’s development was spearheaded by Capcom super-fan Seow “Sonic” Zong Hui. Capcom was so impressed by him that they decided to publish it (but for free)!

So here’s one of those great-waste-of-police-time-and-taxpayers-money stories.

A sixth grader from Osaka, Japan is in protective custody after accessing an online game site with another child’s password.

The 11 year-old girl is accused of violating Japan’s Unauthorized Computer Access Law after figuring out the name, birthday, and password of a 12 year-old middle school girl for a free-to-play online game Ameba Pigg.

The little girl explained, “I was jealous of the in-game items the middle school girl had.”

Couldn’t this be handled with a quick warning to the parents? Or are the Japanese police so bored now that they are targeting grade schoolers (as the crime rate in Japan is so low)?

*facepalm*…

onomeister will occasionally post about gaming related news stories that are interesting or outrageous. To see what topics this blog actually covers, read here: ABOUT ONOMEISTER?

OMG unbelievable deal of the year for a bundle of eight highly-rated PC games!! Only 5 days left (as of my post date: 06/09/2012), so hurry! If you’ve been following gaming, you’ll already know these critically-acclaimed games: Braid, Bastion, LIMBO, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery, Super Meat Boy, Psychonauts; but you also get Amnesia: The Dark Descent (A first-person horror game about living through a nightmare), and Lone Survivor (an intense side-scrolling psychological horror game).

**Keep in mind that you can pay any amount you wish to get four games, but only customers who pay more than the *average* price (currently listed on website as $8.29) will receive Bastion, Braid, Super Meat Boy, and Lone Survivor, as well as several music soundtracks of five of the games. System requirements are on the website.

This “Humble Indie Bundle” has been promoting new (and old) PC games made by indie developers for several years now. These games are sold and distributed online at a price determined by you, the customer. The games are DRM-free, and independently developed, and you decide how you want the revenue split between the developers, charities and humble bundle organizers. Worried if it’s legit? See their wiki page.

There have been nine of these bundle drives now and many have said this current Humble Bundle is the best one ever! If you love video games like me, you MUST own this bundle!

Here’s a quick review of each game, and further below is a video show showing clips from every game in the bundle (a few f-words by the reviewer, lol)

  • Braid – This memorable and innovative side scrolling masterpiece has beautiful lush visuals and a feature that lets you rewind your last steps if you die, a very handy tool.
  • Bastion – An isometric hack-and-slash role-playing game that has won many awards, highly regarded for its gorgeously colourful graphics, you’ll laugh at the deep-voiced narrator (voted for its outstanding music in 2011)
  • LIMBO – A beautiful black & white puzzle adventure game that is simple but challenging in later levels, you’ll love the aesthetics and art style.
  • Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP – Highly-rated when it came out on iOS devices, this simple and fun indie gem uses 8-bit pixel graphics beautifully and was nominated for its amazing and memorable music in 2011.
  • Super Meat Boy – This pull-your-hair-out difficult platformer game will challenge you to the max. You will die a thousand deaths, but the adrenaline and excitement that you feel when you complete a level is just great.
  • Psychonauts – One of those few games that make you laugh out loud, this game has sharp humour, bizarre characters and excellent production values.
  • Amnesia: The Dark DescentA first-person horror game about immersion, discovery and living through a nightmare – a very scary game!
  • Lone Survivor – This chilling and disturbing survivor horror game has an irresistible atmosphere of spine-tingling dread.

Are you into video games? All gamers should check out the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) so you can see what latest games are coming out soon. But did you know the GDC hosts an awards show every year, to celebrate great games from the previous year? Why was Deus Ex: Human Revolution nominated? Is it worth your hard-earned dollars? Here are onomeister’s can’t-miss reasons why this game was nominated for Game of the Year:

Deus Ex's beautiful art design - click above!

  • 11 years have passed since the original Deus Ex, but well worth the wait for this RPG first-person shooter action game from Eidos Montreal developers.
  • The art direction and production design is eye-poppingly beautiful. One reviewer called it a mesh of Blade Runner and Mirror’s Edge in certain parts.
  • A must-play for any fan of great sci-fi action stories.
  • Every objective allows you to complete it in multiple ways and this freedom you have is one of the game’s strong points.
  • New players to the franchise can jump right in without much worry of playing the previous games.
  • Replayability is a strength as even after your first playthrough of 25 to 40 hours, you’ll feel like you want to play through it multiple times.
  • PC Gamer: “The full story is vast and complex, crammed into every corner of Human Revolution’s world. Every apartment you break into, every secret room you find, every rooftop you clamber across has little scraps of personality and history to read and interpret. It’s a story-junky’s blissful overdose.”
  • This game is rated M for 17+

Are you into video games? All gamers should check out conferences such as the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) so you can see what latest games are coming soon to a store near you. However, how do you know which games are good? So many games, not enough money or time! Well, did you know the GDC hosts an awards show every year, to celebrate great games from the previous year? Here are onomeister’s can’t-miss reasons (ongoing) why these games were nominated for Game of the Year:

  • Batman: Arkham CityThe sequel to Batman Arkham Asylum, this game could easily have won Game of the Year. With an open world structure, outstanding graphics, amazing cut scenes and well written storyline, this is a must-buy. Mark Hamill (a la Luke Skywalker) has the perfect Joker voice. Yay, casual gamers can set to easy difficulty, but try normal first as you can unlock several cool things (like the hilarious Big Head mode). A game you can play with your 12+ year old son (take turns when you get stuck or die). It’s too bad that there are so few superhero games that are so well-made such as this one. Rocksteady should be the only developer allowed to make superhero games! (Rated Teen)
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim *winner
  • Portal 2
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Dark Souls

However, how do you know which games are good? So many games, not enough money or time! Well, did you know the GDC  hosts an awards show every year, to celebrate great games from the previous year? Here are onomeister’s can’t-miss reasons why these games (ongoing) were nominated for Game of the Year:

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3 / Xbox 360) – I’ve wanted to ask, why is Skyrim so damn popular? Is it the meticulous attention to detail in this graphically beautiful world? Or because almost every aspect of the game can be altered and tailored based on your decisions? Or because in the expansive Viking world, every city has its own personality? Or because of the sheer overwhelming amount of so many different things you can do in the game? Of course, it’s all of these and more! For casual gamers, you will enjoy this game due to its open-world, play-at-your-own pace, and if you get lost or don’t know what to do next, you can use a magic spell to guide you where to go next.  Oh, and don’t forget the dragons! A MUST GET!!
